Course Overview
STATEMENT OF NEED: This activity is designed to help clinicians learn how to manage individual patients undergoing complex surgery so they emerge faster, with less pain, nausea and vomiting, and cognitive decline; and hasten the return of functional status. The activity will also facilitate adoption of systems-based practice to improve population health in surgical patients.
TARGET AUDIENCE: This activity is designed for anesthesiologists, hospitalists, intensivists, pain management physicians, CRNAs.

Obesity and Sleep Apnea
Arriving Tuesday afternoon or earlier? We have an optional session, “Obesity and Sleep Apnea,” on Tuesday evening. This interactive session will be led by John E. Ellis, MD, Anesthesia Camp Course Director.

This will be a PBLD discussion and lecture, with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments provided.
Lecture objectives:
1. Use STOP-BANG to assess likelihood of sleep apnea.
2. Use preoxygenation and positive pressure techniques to improve oxygenation and lung function in obese patients.
3. Provide multimodal analgesia to patients with known or suspected sleep apnea in hopes of reducing post-operative respiratory events.
